Edinburgh Hotel Scoops Gold Green Tourism Award Winner for the 4th time! Radisson Blu Edinburgh launches competition to win a free night’s stay in Scotland’s Capital
We are delighted to have been accredited with the Gold Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) Award for the 4th consecutive year in 2014. The GTBS recognises places to stay and visit that are taking action to support the local area and the wider environment. It’s the largest sustainable (green) scheme to operate globally and assesses hundreds of fantastic places to stay and visit in the United Kingdom. Hotels and accommodation providers are audited annually and given a rating between Gold, Silver and Bronze – with Gold being the most acclaimed, and challenging level. Areas that a business are assessed on include Management and Marketing, Social Involvement and Communication, Energy, Water, Purchasing, Waste, Travel, Natural and Cultural Heritage and Innovation.
To celebrate our continued recognition as a Responsible Business, we are sending our very own little green Think Planet mascot, Lumi, on a tour in search of some of the best Green Tourism businesses in Scotland. Lumi is the firefly-mascot of “Think Planet”, which is an ambitious energy saving project from Carlson Rezidor, the management company of the Radisson Blu Hotel Edinburgh, targeting a reduction in the hotel’s energy consumption of 25% by 2016.
Lumi will be touring from Monday the 6th of October and every day that week pictures of his day trips will be posted on the hotel’s twitter page @RadissonEDI. Competition entrants will be invited to guess where Lumi is that day for a chance to be entered into a draw of correct entries at the end of the week. The lucky competition winner will win a night’s stay at the Radisson Blu Edinburgh with dinner, bed and breakfast and tickets for some top Green Tourism attractions.
“GTBS is recognised by UK national and regional government as a crucial part of its drive towards sustainability and we fully support and strive to contribute to its aim to build on this strong position and ensure that the UK remains at the forefront of sustainable tourism in the future. We are very proud to have again received the accolade of Gold award and the team here are delighted with this very special achievement. With the Lumi competition, we wanted to do something fun to both celebrate success and to promote the wonderful green business partners we have here in Edinburgh” says Graeme Gibson, General Manager, Radisson Blu Hotel, Edinburgh.
