More from our fabulously festive team at Radisson Blu Hotel, Edinburgh… and a little helping hand to help make deliciously dreamy festive fayre this year!
Santa and his little elves have been doing a stint behind our bar this festive season… here they are with a wonderfully warm cocktail recipe to get you into the Christmas spirit
At Radisson Blu, we’re always looking for ways to improve our guests’ experience, and when we can help the environment as well – that’s icing on the cake! That’s why Radisson Blu Edinburgh has teamed up with City Car Club, the UK’s leading independent car club, to help improve air quality on Edinburgh’s streets by providing access to a convenient, low-carbon mode of transport.
City Car Club has been a staple fixture in Edinburgh’s transport system for more than a decade and today has close to 5000 members using over 130 low-emission vehicles across the city. The partnership with Radisson Blu comes at a crucial point in the battle against air pollution, where the car club is also preparing to introduce 20 electric vehicles across Edinburgh and Glasgow as part of the Scottish Government’s plans to reduce levels of air pollution across the country.
The Radisson Blu Edinburgh is no stranger to eco-friendly initiatives. They’ve won a number of ‘green’ awards in recent years. Amongst these is theQueen’s Award – recognition from Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II for the hotels’ commitment to sustainable business development in the areas of energy, waste, food and transport.
The Prius Plug-in arrives as part of the hotel’s on-going transport development plan which already sees 80% of its employees and guests using public transport. The hybrid electric takes this great initiative a step further by providing those associated with the hotel, plus residents and businesses in the area, with on-demand access to an eco-friendly vehicle.
Graeme Gibson, General Manager of the Radisson Blu hotel says, “Having this type of vehicle in the heart of the city will be of great benefit to residents and businesses. It will also enable our staff and guests to use a sustainable means of transport when they need to get around by car. It’s great to be collaborating with City Car Club on this project as their car club model is a real success in the city. We look forward to working with them closely in the future to promote the use of eco-friendly transport.”
The eco-friendly alternative to car ownership is already showing great results. Last year, independent research by Carplus, the UK’s regulatory body for car clubs, demonstrated that Scottish car club fleets were saving in excess of 100 tonnes of carbon every year. This figure will only continue to rise as more electric and hybrid vehicles, like the Toyota Prius Plug-in at Edinburgh’s Radisson Blu hotel, are introduced by the likes of City Car Club. So take a deep breath …and enjoy.

We’ve had a pretty jam packed year for sport to get us motivated with the Tour De France pedaling through the country, to thecommonwealth games taking place in Glasgow with the all the home nations finishing within the top 15 places and with Europe defending their Ryder Cup title at Gleneagles the country is on a serious sporting high. Now is a good a time as any to swap the arm chair and crisps and watching our sporting heroes and start acting like them.
Many people think that to make a real difference to their lives in terms of health and fitness you need to be hitting the treadmill or weights 5 times a week, but if anything that will do more damage than good. If the gym isn’t your thing, there are so many alternatives that can get your heart pumping and your waist line shrinking, you’ve just got to start thinking outside of the box.
Instead of driving to work, why not fly past the daily commuting traffic on a bike. The government have introduced a cycle scheme to get more people active. Working with an extensive amount of companies, businesses and cycle stores all over the country you can save up to 42% off the regular price of a bike and payment comes out through your salary.
Park Run is a company/running club set up that organised runs nationwide as well as worldwide. The runs are all 10k and although for many it is a competitive race, there is no pressure to finish under any time and is always a good group of runner there to give you that little boost we all sometimes need. The other advantage (or disadvantage for many) is that the runs take place on a Saturday morning, so your lie in can wait till Sunday, no excuses!
If you lack the self-motivation or running isn’t your thing, why not get a group of friends together for a game of football, or even try something new all together. Check out your local council website or pop into your leisure centre to see what facilities they can offer.
What I have mentioned is just a drop in the ocean of ideas to keep you going. Exercising and sport is meant to be fun, if you start getting bored just mix it up.
Getting and staying healthy isn’t just about exercise though, but how you look after your body mentally and keeping track of what goes into it, watch this space for some tips on how to mix up your everyday food and drink to not only reduce the risk of illness but to give you and your whole family the chance to try something new, and maybe even find a new favourite!
Yours in health,
